Ashe Library’s Veterans History Project Wants YOU

Ashe County Public Library is partnering with JROTC students, Museum of Ashe County History, and Ashe County Veterans Association to document and share stories of our local military heroes. Using resources from the National Library of Congress, a Veterans History Project be implemented to bring awareness to sacrifices and bravery of our local veterans. We are recruiting veterans who are willing to be interviewed for print or audio/visual documentation by volunteers, and are inviting them to share personal stories through letters, diaries, journals, official military documents, photos, or artwork.

Those interested in being a part of the project may call (336.846.2041 x229) or stop by the library to sign-up.
A workshop (light meal to be provided) will be offered at 4:30 p.m. on November 7 to assist volunteers with preparing and conducting interviews. Family stories and histories about life on the home front, by those in support of veterans serving abroad, are also desired. It is important to pass on an understanding for the price of freedom to future generations.  Please consider participating in this project. A participant may be a veteran, an interviewer, or person donating a veteran’s collection.

The stories collected will be uploaded into the Museum of Ashe County History’s kiosk and published in a Veteran Memories Magazine to be archived in the library’s Heritage Room and shared with veterans and their families.

Dates to remember in November:
The library will be closed for Veterans Day, November 11, and Thanksgiving, November 26 – 28.
